An Exercise Program for Weight Loss
doesn't have to be difficult, and these exercise programs can be fun and entertaining. First, remember that we must start out slow. If you've been sitting in an office or classroom for years, and your only diet or exercise program until now has been walking to the car or the breakroom, a 30 minute intensive cardio-workout will do you no good, and might cause irreparable harm. So, maybe start with one of these
workout programs,
or a brisk
walk
around the block. If you pay attention to your body signals, you'll know when you can increase the intensity and duration.
Now, I'm going to suggest something that may upset some of the work-out afficionados out there. Don't go out and join a gym just for their exercise programs! Get yourself in the habit of walking, running, or getting other cardiovascular exercise first. When you've been at this for 30 days (did you know that's how long it takes to form a new habit?), then, if you feel you need a more supervised exercise regimen, you can feel comfortable joining a gym. By this time, working out will be a habit you know you're going to stick with, and a gym may just help you.
The truest words I've heard spoken in a health club, and I've worked in a couple of them, and worked out in many more, came from a personal trainer with years of experience. Here's what he said, "So many people join a club thinking that they're going to change the way they look. It almost never happens. All they really need to do is watch their diet, exercise regularly, and learn to be content with the body God gave them."
That's not to say you won't lose some weight, get healthier, improve your cardiovascular health, build muscle, and meet some positive people, though. What my friend was saying was that your body isn't likley to change much beyond slimming, toning, and firming. So, as my therapist used to say during the holidays, "Lower your expectations and surprise yourself!" We're back to my mantra regarding moderation in all things, even our expectations of how we should look.
Exercise programs don't have to be expensive, that's for sure. All you need is shoes, shorts, and a shirt! Check out my friend Duncans' site for practical advice on how to get started
running
in the great outdoors. He's seen the highs and lows of running over the past 40 years!
Think about how good you'll feel about your new work-out program the first time someone asks if you've lost some weight or done something different with your hair. That makes everything worthwhile, and you're in better health to boot!
