A Zone Diet Can Help Make You Healthier, Without Spending Any Money!

Zone diet references are all over the internet today. There is so much hype, so many sales pitches, and so much misinformation that it's a wonder anyone uses the diet! We're going to simplify and qualify what the values and rewards of this diet are, without trying to sell you on anything. In fact, if you've been here at our home page, you already know more about this diet than most, because this web site is about the basics of the zone diet, which include these main points:

First; Eat in Moderation. This means smaller portions of everything, and less of all the things you already know are bad for you.

Second; Eat only lean protein. Let your meat consist only of the leanest red meat, skinless chicken, lots of seafood, and various soy substitutes.

Third; Make the bulk of your meal fresh vegetables, fruits, and beans. Steaming or stir frying the veggies, and eating the fruits whole and raw is best.
Fourth; Be certain to get a share of olive oil, nuts, and peanut or almond butter in every meal to maintain your good cholesterol.
Finally; This diet is all about reducing refined carbohydrates. Eat as little processed carbs as possible, meaning pasta, bread, and baked goods.

As you can see, the zone diet is not complicated. It is really pretty logical. Eat less carbs, less processed foods, less fatty foods, and more vegetables and fruits. The perceived complications pertain to the diets' references to insulin levels related to over-ingestion of processed carbohydrates and saturated animal fat. There is a great deal of evidence that shows that this is a very healthy diet, but common sense will tell us that without all of the fancy studies.

There also some helpful suggestions that are unique to the zone diet. These include eating less food during meals, and having a snack in between to ward off hunger. This is great advice, but make sure to have healthy snacks on hand. I try to have some easy to eat nuts or baked chips around for these occasions. The zone diet also recommends never going more than 5 hours without at least a snack. The reasoning behind this suggests that the body will only burn fat when it's not being forced to store it. Good logic, and I've seen it play out many times in the past. Starvation diets are very dangerous and ineffective. You must eat regularly so your body knows it's ok to burn the calories.

There are a lot of complicated elements to the zone diet, but they're really not essential to someone trying to get healthy and lose some weight. Eat homemade foods, cooked properly, with a base of fruit, veggies, and lean meats, and drink lots of water. Ultimately, you just use common sense, shrink your portion size, eat regularly, if less per meal, and stop drinking sodas, whole milk, and sugar and alcohol. Replace the latter with more water. Exercise regularly, 5 or 6 days a week, 30 minutes or more per day.No need for fancy meal plans, counting calories, weighing portions, or worrying about whether you're doing everything just right.
